What drives this department

Bystronic’s Smart Factory vision is about seamless integration between hardware and software. As a machine tool manufacturer, the increasing importance and complexity of our Software stack is a challenge for us. Nowhere in our organization is this transformation more salient and more challenging than in our Quality Assurance (QA) process. In the past we would release a stand-alone machine and its associated Human Machine Interface (HMI) Software twice a year. Today, we have Machine HMIs which are highly connected to their execution environments. We develop, deploy, test, and release such HMI updates once a month in some sectors. Agile Software development offers us many advantages, but it also poses logistical challenges when release candidates must be tested on physical hardware. Are you ready to take on such a challenge?

What you will be doing

The Head of Testing oversees a team of 7 test engineers responsible for conducting comprehensive physical testing of our machines via their HMIs. This encompasses a range of testing approaches including End-to-End, Black Box, User Acceptance, Integration, Regression, and Reliability Testing. The Head of Testing ensures that our Cutting, Bending, and Tube machines, alongside integrated Smart Factory Solutions, meet our stringent quality and usability standards.

• Strategic planning in cooperation with Global Head of R&D Software Engineering of testing strategies
• Planning and coordination of testing activities around roadmaps and incremental deliveries
• Support our field testing process including occasional travel to field test customers' facilities
• Administrative management of the test facility and maintenance of the Smart Factory installation therein
• Documentation of test results

Your education & experience

• Proven leadership experience, with a track record of successfully leading teams towards achieving project goals
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.)
• Strong technical background with experience in software testing methodologies, tools, and techniques
• Proficiency in incident management practices, with the ability to effectively address and resolve issues as they occur

What you need to succeed

• Excellent communication skills in both German and English, with the ability to effectively collaborate with international teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality software products that meet or exceed customer expectations
• Deep understanding of Agile methodology and experience working in Agile environments, with the ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic and iterative development process
